The gap this fills

A diagnosis is not the same as understanding it.

You've been told what you have, or handed a report full of terms — maybe you've even asked an AI to explain it. What's often missing is someone qualified telling you what it actually means for you, and what your real choices are.

What usually happens

An answer, but no clarity

A rushed appointment, a report you can't decode, or an AI summary that sounds confident but nobody has checked. You're left deciding on something serious without knowing your options.

What Talus Health does

Why surgeon-level matters

Advice from inside the surgeon's frame of reference.

Most podiatry training outside North America is non-surgical by design. That's an important distinction when the question on the table is whether an operation is the right choice — because answering it well means understanding the operation itself.

General podiatry training

  • 3–4 year undergraduate degree
  • Non-surgical scope by training
  • Limited exposure to operative decision-making

US surgical pathway

  • BSc, then a 4-year doctoral degree (DPM)
  • 3-year hospital surgical residency
  • Trained in reconstruction & operative decision-making

"Do I actually need this surgery — and what happens if I don't?"

A note on framing: this is a description of training scope, not a judgement of any other clinician. Many excellent practitioners work within a non-surgical scope and serve their patients well. The point is simply that a decision about surgery benefits from a perspective trained in surgery — and that perspective is what this service adds alongside the clinician already managing your care.

Who it's for

Clarity before a decision that matters.

You're facing possible surgery

An operation has been proposed and you want an independent, surgically-informed view before you commit.

Your report doesn't make sense

You've been handed imaging or results full of terminology and want it explained in language you can act on.

You want to weigh alternatives

You've been given one plan and want to understand the realistic options and trade-offs around it.

You checked with an AI

You asked ChatGPT or similar about your condition and want a licensed specialist to sanity-check what it told you.

You're far from a specialist

Access to a foot-and-ankle specialist is limited where you are, and you want expert input remotely.

You're a clinician yourself

You're managing a case and want a specialist interpretation to inform your own plan. See the clinician referral option.

About

Who reviews your case

Your case is reviewed by Samir Lalani, DPM FACFAS — a podiatric physician and surgeon trained in the United States, Board Certified in Foot Surgery, now practising in Canada (licensed by the College of Podiatric Physicians of Alberta) and Kenya (licensed by the KHPOA in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery).

The US training pathway is an eleven-year, physician-level route: a four-year undergraduate degree, a four-year doctoral degree in podiatric medicine, and a three-year hospital surgical residency. It's a scope of training that doesn't exist in most of the region — and it's what lets this service speak to operative decisions from the inside.

Frequently asked

No. Talus Health provides an educational second opinion and interpretation — helping you understand what you have and what your options are. It doesn't replace the clinician managing your care, and no diagnosis, treatment, or prescription is issued through this service.

Not necessarily. Imaging is reviewed when you have it, but a case can be built from a report, a diagnosis, test results, clinical photos, or an AI summary you want checked. Bring whatever is relevant.

Payment is by M-Pesa or card through a secure payment page. Patients in Kenya are billed the KES equivalent; international and diaspora patients are billed in US dollars.
